Neonatal Feeding Training – Africa and South Asia

In November 2015, Himali de Silva and Basia Hamden, two Speech and Language Therapists working in the UK, gave training to parents of babies with feeding difficulties in Uganda, who would, in turn, run training for groups of new mothers. They also ran a workshop on infant breastfeeding and introducing solid foods to a range of healthcare professionals.

Himali returned in April of this year with another colleague, Maya Asir, to follow up this work and package the training materials they have been developing.

“I thank all our teachers who have helped us to get more knowledge on feeding and more skills, making us more confident to talk to other parents.” Lucy – Parent Trainer

Since then further training has been requested – by local speech and language therapists and we are hoping that Lucy will be one of the trainers!

Himali and Maya are now on their way to Sri Lanka, to pilot the training for nurses and speech and language therapists there. The training programme will be available via our website early next year (2017).
