In April 2016, Himalia and Maya, speech and language therapists working in the UK, returned to Mulago Hospital in Uganda to follow up on training completed in November 2015. They reviewed the practice of Parent Trainers that they had worked with on their previous visit, to assess their ability to train and support mothers whose babies are having difficulty with feeding.
One Parent Trainer, Lucy, fed back, “I feel good and I feel confident…it reminded me what I learnt in November…Now I am confident that I can train other mothers.”
They also piloted an infant feeding training package that they have developed for MAITS with nurses in the Special Care Unit at Kiwoko Hospital. Training was in the form of theory and practical sessions. This will soon be available via the MAITS website.
