CHILD MENTAL HEALTH IN THE RURAL EASTERN HIMALAYAS

Broadleaf Health & Education Alliance is looking for experienced professionals to support child mental health in the Eastern Himalayas.

Expanding access to children’s mental health care is a crucial global health challenge. 20% of all children suffer from significant mental health concerns; most will remain unrecognized, unsupported, and affected lifelong.

In response to this challenge, we have developed a program (TeaLeaf) to train primary school teachers to deliver evidence-based mental health care to their students during academic instruction and 1:1 time. We believe this task-shifting intervention is an important step in comprehensively overcoming the support gap and increasing access to community mental health for children in resource-limited settings.

TeaLeaf is currently being implemented and tested in over 60 schools in the rural Darjeeling Himalayas of India.

We are seeking committed and experienced professionals to support the professional development and capacity of our local team. We are open to individuals from a variety of disciplines including:

  • child/school psychologists
  • special education teachers
  • clinical social workers
  • counselors
  • mental health nurse practitioners

We envision medium to long term partnerships with a minimum commitment on-site in Darjeeling, India of 4 weeks.
