COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT TRAINING

The Organisation for Child Development and Transformation (CHADET) is a registered NGO based in Ethiopia, delivering a UKaid-funded Girls Education Challenge project reaching over 16,000 girls in Amhara and Oromia regions of the country. The project aims to increase the number of years that girls, including disabled girls, remain in education and see them transition from primary to secondary education, higher and education and vocational training. The organisation is seeking a volunteer with experience of working in low resource environments and training teachers and other education professionals, who have little or no experience of inclusive education, so that the numbers of disabled girls accessing and remaining in school increases, and they receive a better quality education. The aim of the volunteer placement is two-fold; to provide training on how to identify behaviours that suggest certain cognitive impairments, for example dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and autism, and on the introduction of classroom mechanisms that seek to overcome the impairment. The volunteer placement would be for up to two weeks, depending on availability, so that training could take place in both regions.
